About Every Child, Every Chance

The Every Child, Every Chance initiative was established in 2020, through funding from Regional Development Victoria, to improve outcomes for children aged 0 to 8 and their families in Central Goldfields. By focusing on five evidence-based priority areas, we strive to create better opportunities for children, especially those facing disadvantage.

We work on five key areas from pregnancy to primary school to support children and families. We use our local knowledge, our aspiration for social change and our collaborative approach to build a model of practice that responds to the need in our community.

Our priorities

Stacking interventions through five evidence-based priority areas, we are determined to make a positive change to the lives of children, particularly those living with disadvantage, across Central Goldfields.

Our priorities include:

Healthy & Supported Pregnancies

Supporting every pregnancy to maximise health and well-being for
parents and
children.

Confident & Connected New Parents

Empowering parents and carers with resources and support to confidently raise their children and engage with services.

Safe and Thriving Children

Ensuring access to services and environments to support
psychological, physical,
emotional and cultural safety.

Valued Early Years Education & Care

Promoting investment in early childhood education to foster family and community growth.

A Great Start to School for All Kids

Facilitating collaboration among schools, kindergartens, and services to support a smooth transition into education.

Our programs

Go Goldfields is a licenced through Murdoch Children’s Research Institute as an Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities Hub.

The Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities is a peer-led parenting program that enhances parents skills and confidence and empowers them to form connections, and build parenting skills with other parents through the ‘Being a Parent’ course.

After completing BAP, interested parents have the opportunity to become a BAP facilitator with additional training and support.

Go Goldfields has invested in training local facilitators to deliver the ‘Being a Parent’ course to Central Goldfields parents and carers.

Courses are run each term at various locations and best suit parents or carers of children aged 2 to 11.

Our progress so far

Go Goldfields is making a difference in our community, even with many challenges.

We have created The Nest, a place where parents can drop in, get support, and connect with other parents. Our peer-to-peer parenting programs are run by local parents and help build confidence and skills.

More children are now attending kindergarten, and more parents are joining our programs for first-time parents. We have strong support from local organisations and services for our vision.

The Every Child, Every Chance initiative has made notable progress in increasing service co-ordination, developing responsive programs and fostering collaboration for better outcomes.

Key achievements include:

Strong support from key institutions and services.

Establishment of The Nest, a safe, welcoming space for parents in Maryborough.

A comprehensive approach to school readiness, focusing on children and families.
Implementation of peer-to-peer parenting programs with local facilitators.
Creation of a supportive early years system to improve access and outcomes for children.

Early results include:

Kinder participation (>15 hours) has risen from 33% in 2019 to 85% in 2024.
Engagement in first-time parent programs increased from 3% in 2019 to 60% in 2024.

Over 2200 family visits to The Nest since July 2022, with 1300+ referrals to additional supports.

Despite our successes, the effects of entrenched socio-economic disadvantage are deep-rooted and will take generations to overcome. The Every Child, Every Chance initiative has laid a promising foundation for change, but continued financial support is essential to maintain momentum and achieve lasting impact.
