GO GOLDFIELDS DATA PACK 2020
We are proud to develop this important resource for our local community, while also contributing to an international data-focused community who elevate data literacy to drive social change.
Our partnership group members have participated in, and guided, a significant data dashboard review in late 2019. Establishing learning and measurement systems that enable our collaborators to design activities that contribute to the shared goals of each of our change priorities is seen as essential to achieving our long term aspiration of; ‘Our community aspiring and achieving to live a full life’.
You can view Data Dashboards for each of our four (historical) priority change areas below with live data feeds via Power BI, download individual PDFs of each dashboard, or download our complete Go Goldfields Data Pack 2020 as at March 2020 here;

OUR DATA JOURNEY
Our Go Goldfields data journey started many years ago and has simply been revised, refreshed, and made more visible in 2019 through our concerted efforts to establish publicly visible data dashboards. In 2019 each of the priority area partnership groups revised their theories of change and have identified indicators to measure progress towards improved outcomes.
The process of developing community-driven indicators for the data dashboards has been a process of building knowledge and understanding about collective efforts to achieve our shared goals. These indicators provide the mechanism for monitoring progress, learning and making adaptations towards achieving short, medium, and long-term goals. While our short and medium-term goals shift with environmental forces, our long term indicators have remained mainly unchanged since first established.
review & refinement
In June 2019 the Backbone Team began work with specialists consultants Clear Horizons to review our current indicators and develop the Go Goldfields Data Pack 2020 to demonstrate measurement of impact and data for strategic learning.
Clear Horizon has a wealth of experience in adopting collaborative and participatory approaches to developing measurement frameworks.
“To work towards a shared agenda, communities need to have relevant and timely data at hand to see where they should, how they can, and if they are – create change.” ~ Jen Riley, CIO, Clear Horizon
A series of workshops were conducted across July to October 2019, involving our partnership groups plus further representatives from community, businesses, education, services, and government to decide on the best ways to measure impact and monitor progress. These workshops provided the opportunity for everyone to understand what the enablers and barriers are affecting our ability to achieve intended outcomes, and where appropriate data can be sourced to address this.
Seer Data and Analytics also came on board to assist with data sourcing and management.
Our data gaps demonstrate that some data exists yet is unavailable, and some data is not yet collected at a local area level. We agreed that local data needs to be sourced locally where there are gaps and that this data is needed to fulfill various purposes across the initiative from monitoring and evaluation activities to strategic learning.
sustainability planning
This process has instigated capacity building in local organisations and the development of shared systems and tools for data collection.
Establishing learning and measurement systems that enable our collaborators to design activities that contribute to the shared goals of each of the impact areas is seen as essential to achieving our long term aspiration goal.
We thank everyone who has participated in the significant eight-month review. We specifically applaud the newly developed and renewed Data Partners and Champions within our community including Central Goldfields Shire Council; Community Wellbeing (including the Central Goldfields Children and Families Centre and the Maryborough Regional Library), Community Partnerships and Economic Development Directorates, also The Committee of Maryborough, Maryborough Education Centre, YMCA Kindergarten Cluster, Department of Education and Training (DET), the Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS), Best Start / MDHS, and Victoria Police for their commitment to the sustainability of this undertaking.
The systems and tools that are now established or in development will contribute to the continuous monitoring of the community-driven indicators to achieve the long term goals of the collaboration partners.
